I am writing to just to let the people of our district know how much these constant delays and delaying tactics by a small group of objectors to the M6 link is costing the local authority and us the taxpayer.
The cost of delay due to the legal challenge is £800,000 in construction costs and £900,000 in preparation costs. Before the delay we had agreed with the contractor an estimated cost of £123.5 million, now it goes up to £124 million. If the judge does not grant further appeals then construction could start in November, any further delay will push up costs further.
I believe that the majority of residents in Morecambe and Heysham are fed up with these few people who are out to stop the road, any road, at all costs and I mean at all costs. We just want the road to be built, the Government is ready to fund it, the contractors are ready to start, the people who would like jobs on it are ready and people that are held up daily in the constant grind to get from Morecambe and Heysham through Lancaster to the motorway are more than ready. Let this be the last trip to the court of appeal and let’s get on and build.
