Lancaster preserves while Morecambe demolishes

The Broadway Hotel is to be bulldozed

Yet another iconic building is to be lost in Morecambe.

I refer of course to the Broadway Hotel, which is to be bulldozed by McCarthy and Stone.

Since I moved to this area, Morecambe has lost the Grosvenor Hotel, Grand Hotel, Floral Hall, part of the Winter Gardens, both piers and the Elms Hotel.

There is a similar situation happening now in Lancaster with the Greaves Hotel which is supposed to be partly demolished by the same company.

Now why on earth can’t the outer shell of some of these hotels be retained, and living accommodation still provided by developers?

After all it happened with the old Lancaster Co-operative Store in Church Street some decades ago when that was redeveloped for its shopping area.

When is Morecambe Town Hall to be turned into flats?

The local planners want to get to grips with progress and preservation, or is that to much to ask?
