With regard to last weeks letters and regarding showing tribute to Gunner Lee Rigby’s death at the Morecambe War Memorial, can I inform your readers that there is an association here in the Morecambe whose sole aim is to bring together ex-servicemen and their associations.
This organisation is called Morecambe And District United Services Association (M A D U S A). I can’t help thinking that had we have been informed quite a few of us would have gladly attended and made it a far larger tribute to Gunner Lee Rigby,s death.
MADUSA is the association whom for the last two years have organised the Armed Forces Weekend. This year-as every year-it is on the last weekend in June i.e. 28th-30th June. There will be The Paul Hayse Collection band on at Smokey O’Connor’s on Friday Night, a church service at St Barnabas, Regent Road and a celebration concert by the Morecambe Band at the Winter Gardens on Saturday. Sunday there will be the Parade and Drum Head Service on the prom at 1200 hours and the Morecambe Band and other events inside the Winter Gardens. Can I ask for all those who are interested in the armed forces to make an effort to attend and make it a good day.
It would be good to see the old faces and maybe some different ones for instance, is there anyone out there like my last remaining aunt who has been given her badge and medal for her service in the Land Army or any, by this time very old hands, who served on the Russian Convoys? I would love to see one of those medals on parade.
One just more request, if you can assist on the day especially if you can donate a sum of money it will be a great help. This year we have had no help from the council with any of our funds and have had to raise monies yourselves. Look out for the notices around the town for details or contact email@example.com.
