Work on the Chatsworth Gardens housing scheme in Morecambe’s West End is due to start next month.

Specialist empty homes developer PlaceFirst will refurbish and remodel 28 former Victorian guesthouses to create 51 new apartments and houses in a £5.5m scheme.

The project aims to build on the success of previous regeneration initiatives in the town, such as The Midland hotel and M6 link.

The empty Victorian properties had formerly been used as guest houses and were the subject of a failed regeneration scheme that was approved in 2008 and involved demolition of the homes, but which was abandoned in 2010.

The first homes should be available for rent from June 2015.
