The Westgate horse is back.

Residents began a Twitter campaign to ‘save the Westgate horse’ last summer and now the animal has once again been tethered at the side of the busy road on Westgate.

The animal was tied to a short chain on the main grass verge when our photographer took this picture on Monday.

In July 2012 #savethewestgatehorse became a popular hashtag on social networking site Twitter as users complained the horse could run out into the traffic near White Lund Road.

At the time, police said they received a lot of calls regarding the horse and contacted the RSPCA to outline residents’ concerns.

However, they were told by the RSPCA that they were unable to act unless the horse was in distress.

The land belongs to Lancashire County Council who said they were looking into the issue.
