The principal of Lancaster and Morecambe College has warned that our district must not rest on its laurels now the Heysham to M6 link road is being built.
David Wood challenged our local councils and businesses to ‘shout the road from the roof tops’ to attract new trade into the area.
“Let’s not kid ourselves, (Lancaster and Morecambe) is seen as quite peripheral in other parts of the UK,” he said.
“Now we’re getting this road, we’ve got to make sure we can attract businesses into our community, find land for them, make sure they are well looked after when they knock on Lancaster and Morecambe’s door.
“We need to broadcast this nationally. We need to shout this from the rooftops. It’s a great place to live.”
Although the road will be built across college land, Mr Wood is a keen supporter of the project.
“You’ve got to judge it on the long-term benefits,” he said.
“It will keep local businesses here and bring in new ones. That’s why we have built a new conference centre. We are a vocational college and we will be able to take on staff.”
