Lancaster St John’s Hospice is appealing for marshals to help in their annual Moonlight Walk which raises thousands each year.

The walk will take place on Saturday June 13 and more than 1000 women will be taking part to raise money in memory of their loved ones.

Marshals can be men and women and are placed at various points alomg the route or walk alongside the walkers.

The 25k Orange Angels are setting off at 10pm and the 14k Pink Ladies are going at midnight.

The routes need more than 100 marshals to either walk or man the route to keep walkers safe.

Help is required from 9pm and continues until the last walkers have returned which could be as late as 4am.

Volunteers will also be required from 8.30pm to make sure all the walkers are registered and refreshments are ready.

Last year more than £120,000 was raised, a record for the St John’s Hospice Moonlight Walk.

Karen Crossley, community fundraiser, said: “Please try and help if you can, without the kindness of our local community who volunteer to help we would not be able to hold events like these.

“It is a wonderful and uplifting event to be a part of and is so much fun too!”
