Voluntary funding maintained

LOCAL voluntary groups will receive the same level of grants in the new financial year.

Around £1.5m worth of grants for local voluntary, community and faith sector (VCFS) groups will be made available.

A new fund has been launched from April 2011, called the Local Initiatives Fund.

This will provide schemes which will improve people’s quality of life by improving outcomes for families; people’s skills and employability; and activities for teenagers.

A meeting of county councillors also put forward proposals to more than double grants given out by individual councillors.

This means there would be £3,000 to enable each county councillor to support grassroots projects and activities that are a priority locally and where groups may find it difficult attracting funding from elsewhere.
