Bare village is all set to welcome its first female Lord Mayor in 103 years.
Susan Bray will take over the ceremonial robe and mace on Saturday, June 8, at the annual Barefest festival.
Mrs Bray, a retired teacher and former Lancaster city councillor, will be inaugurated in a ceremony in the Dog and Partridge pub car park.
Although the title of Lord Mayor of Bare holds no official powers, it was resurrected to create a figurehead who will be “entrusted with the community spirit of the village”.
The current Lord Mayor of Bare is musician and student, Cameron Seddon.
John Nickson, President of Bare Village Club, will present Mrs Bray with her mayoral office.
Barefest will begin with a parade of colour and fun through the village, involving Morecambe Band, the Boys Brigade Band, sea cadets, air cadets, church groups, charitable organisations, drama groups, the Happy Feet School of Dance and other guests.
Events will run all afternoon including music and drama, model engineers, birds of prey, creepy critters, Bare Village Trails and Tales, bouncy castle, rides, arts and crafts, jazz trio, tastings and treats, a hog roast, face painting, treasure hunt, floral master class, competitions and some special guests.
Barefest is organised by the Bare Village Business Association to celebrate the unique history and community spirit of Bare. Last year’s event raised £3,800 for charity.
