A late photographer’s collection of 17,000 images – including thousands of historical snaps of old Morecambe – has been unearthed.

The Bill Houston Collection contains snaps of people, buildings, scenery and events in the town and the surrounding district from around 1863 to 1956.

Chris Abram has been given a massive collection of photos of old Morecambe and district belonging to late photographer Bill Houston.

Bill, who died in September 2012, owned a photography studio opposite Bare Lane station.

The snaps were found by his son Lee in a back room at the shop.

Bill’s family has donated the photos, slides and negatives to Carnforth filmmaker Chris Abram.

Mr Abram has begun the painstaking process of scanning and indexing each image, so they can be preserved for future generations.

He says this could take him two years, then he hopes they can be put on display in a local museum.

In our video, Chris shows off some of Bill’s old photos of Morecambe, Heysham and Overton.
