“MORECAMBE has its fair share of nutters!” claimed a town councillor during a heated debate on public participation at meetings.
Coun Geoff Marsland said rules on allowing members of the public to speak at Morecambe Town Council had to change after police had to be called to a recent meeting.
“Morecambe has its fair share of nutters - this is a serious situation that has developed and we have very little powers to do anything about it,” he said.
After Coun Marsland, a Morecambe Bay Independent who is also a lollipop man in Torrisholme, made his comment at last Thursday’s Town Council meeting, one watching member of the public shouted: “That’s disgraceful!”
Roger Plumb, town council chairman, had called police to the March 17 meeting to restore order in the public gallery, fearing a breach of the peace.
