A STUDENT is aiming high for charity by climbing Kilimanjaro in Africa.

Charlotte Rickards of Silverdale, who is studying medicine at Leeds University, will be putting her best foot forward to raise money for Childreach International.

She said: “It’s going to be an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity! I’ll be doing a six day trek to the top of Kilimanjaro and also I’ll be able to visit one of the schools helped by this charity and talk to the kids there.

“I’m also planning various fundraising activities throughout the year including being sponsored to run the height of Kilimanjaro in one day using the Lake District’s mountains.”

Charlotte first found out about the charity from an advert in the Student Union.

She went to a talk and decided to sign up for the challenge, along with 15 other students.

Charlotte, 19, has to raise £2,500 for the charity and has to donate £1,000 herself.

She said: “I wanted to do something for charity and raise some money.

“I wanted to achieve something for someone else around the world.

“Climbing Kilimanjaro is an achievement and something to aim for.

“It’s going to be really exciting. It’s a really good charity and I’m really happy to raise money for them.”

Charlotte’s family are all behind her and supporting her.

She said: “My family are really supportive and excited for me. One of my brother’s who is in New Zealand is a bit jealous of me though!”
