Tribute unveiled to helicopter dead

A HEYSHAM man who died in a helicopter crash in Morecambe Bay has been remembered by the unveiling of a new memorial.

Gas worker Robert Warburton, 60, was killed along with six other men when a Dauphin SA365N helicopter went down 25 miles off the coast after leaving Blackpool Airport.

Capt Stephen Potton, 52, from Blackpool and co-pilot Simon Foddering, 33, from Preston, were among those killed on December 27, 2006. The stone, which was unveiled at Fleetwood Lifeboat Station, contains the names of the men who died and was the idea of Capt Potton’s wife, Sandra.

Leslie Ahmed, 48, from South Shields, Tyneside; John Shaw, 51, from Kirkcaldy, Fife; Alfred Neasham, 57, from County Durham and Keith Smith, 57, from Stockton-on-Tees were also killed in the accident.
