A taxi driver charged with causing the death of an elderly cyclist has made his first appearance at court.

Ian Walker, 33, made his first appearance at court before District Judge Roger Lowe sitting at Blackpool Magistrates Court.

Walker of The Belle Vue Hotel, Marine Road, Morecambe is charged with causing the death by careless driving of 80 year old George Mitchell.

Mr Mitchell died in Royal Preston Hospital eleven days after an accident on Cable Street, Lancaster in April last year.

Walker pleaded not guilty to the charge.

A date will be fixed for a trial at magistrates court.
