A man has died after being hit by a train.

All rail lines are currently blocked between Lancaster and Morecambe due to the fatality.

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said: “We were called to the line close to Hazelhead Lane in Scorton, at 10.49am on Tuesday, April 21, following reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Lancashire Constabulary and North West Ambulance Service also attended, and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and officers are now working to identify the man and inform his family.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Virgin Trains said delays and cancellations are expected between Lancaster and Preston on all lines.

Northern Rail said they were running buses between Bare Lane and Morecambe and back in place of any cancelled services.
