PLANS for a new motorway brown sign pointing the way to Morecambe have been revealed.
Campaigners had long demanded an upgrade to the old sign off Junction 35 of the M6 at Carnforth because it gave the impression there is nothing to do in Morecambe.
The current sign shows off only two of the town’s attractions – the beach and the tourist information centre.
Now Lancashire County Council’s new design will contain four additional symbols. These promote the Bay view, overnight accommodation, historic building (ie the Winter Gardens) and caravan site. Only officially recognised symbols of attractions and facilities are allowed on motorway brown signs.
But city councillor Roger Dennison said: “I’m somewhat underwhelmed. We’d hoped it would show Morecambe and Heysham in its best light.”
