I’m not sure how 2015 came round so quickly but here we are with a year of Visitor stories to look forward to. As we reprise the second half of last year ( see review of the year – Pages 24&25) we can make a positive start to the New Year with plenty of fab events and changes on the horizon. This year a bigger and better Morecambe carnival is planned following its successful reboot last year. Meanwhile, exciting plans are afoot to reunite Eric and Ernie on the prom as part of our Morecambe Gets Wise campaign. The Vintage festival – such a boon to the town last year – has funding to return bigger and better than ever. And exciting plans are afoot for the recently sold Arndale centre, with multiple improvements promised by the new owners. Now planning permission has been passed for development on Frontierland do expect plenty of updates as details of the scheme come to light and the debates continue.
But as today’s stories show, there are certainly challenges ahead for man. For little Jessica in her leukaemia fight (see Page three) and for Cheryl who has fought long and hard for her much-needed treatment. And Morecambe itself has further battles ahead as it fights to rise its head above the parapet and make itself heard. Something the people of Morecambe can only do together. Happy New Year.
