It’s been a feature of Morecambe’s skyline for many years.

The iconic Broadway Hotel, once a hub of Morecambe’s former booming entertainment scene, once boasted five bars and attracted well-known acts such as Tom O’Connor and Bernard Manning.

Known for its curving art-deco style architecture, the building faces right across Morecambe Bay and once epitomised seaside entertainment.

But the end of an era is nigh, with hoarding up ready for the bulldozers to raze it to the ground. A very sad sight indeed. But there are new beginnings, with a new retirement flat development due to echo the building’s art deco design. But if you want a final look before it is resigned to history, you need to go right now.

Great news to see so many Morecambe and Lancaster tourism destinations and events given the nod on the shortlist for the Lancashire tourism awards.

With 24 venues, events and attractions nominated - it gives a real feeling of positivity to the area.

But it is not without mixed feelings that we welcome the accolades. With news that a line has been drawn under the resort’s Tutti Frutti Festival due to lack of funding, we must acknowledge that the area’s scene is changing and evolving - and not always the way everyone would like.

Lets hope the town council’s new Dragon’s Den approach to funding bids works out.

The Midland hotel is up for two gongs and the Morecambe Vintage-by-the-Sea festival has also been nominated.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Thursday, November 6 at The Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
