Three former Lancaster care home workers have been found guilty of abusing elderly and vulnerable residents.

The offences were committed at Hillcroft Nursing Home, Slyne, where they were employed as carers.

Katie Cairns, 27, of Riverview Court, Morecambe, Carol Moore, 54, of Ripon Avenue, Lancaster and Gemma Pearson, 28, of Hill Street, Carnforth, were convicted at Preston Crown Court on Thursday, November 28.

The offences were committed between May 2010 and September 2011 at a unit at the home for residents with challenging behaviour.

All of the victims have been diagnosed as suffering from dementia.

A fourth male staff member of staff had previously pleaded guilty to ill-treating the residents.

The women will be sentenced in January.
