BULLDOZERS have moved in to raze The Morecambe Dome to the ground.

The town’s top concert venue is being completely demolished and the site levelled off.

Last year Lancaster City Council made the decision to close and pull down the venue as a cost-cutting exercise, despite public protests.

The site has been earmarked for development by Midland Hotel owners Urban Splash as part of their future plans to build on the promenade.

The Dome, originally part of Morecambe Leisure Park swimming complex and called the Superdome, opened in 1980.

During its 30 years as a venue it played host to many star names including Ken Dodd, Arctic Monkeys, Blur, Pulp and Bob Geldof.
