Lancashire police hosted an awareness event to highlight the issue of domestic violence in teenage relationships.
The event – the first of its kind in the North West- involved sharing the complexities of teen abuse and the promotion of early assistance for both the victim and perpetrator. At the event were Trevor and Sheila Fairhurst, whose own daughter Carly died aged 19 after suffering domestic violence at the hands of her abusive boyfriend, Darren Pilkington.
Carly’s father, Trevor Fairhurst said: “It’s really encouraging to see an event of this kind being held to raise this issue that is not widely known about or discussed. Detective Chief Inspector Sue Cawley from Lancashire Constabulary’s Public Protection Unit added: “It is very important that we recognise that abuse can take place in teen relationships.”
