A budding make-up- artist is smiling sweetly after her sugary creation landed her 13th place out of 100 entrants in a national competition.

Aimee Newby, 17, training to be a make-up artist at Lancaster and Morecambe College, entered a National Hairdressing Federation competition.

She created a dress from sweet wrappers she collected over a few months.

Her ‘Candy Queen’ model also wore a multi-coloured hat made out of different sections of hair rolled into ‘sweet’ balls.

Aimee also did Elly’s make-up. The whole look took three hours to complete and the judges were very impressed with Aimee’s entry. Aimee, from Hest Bank, said: “It was a lot of work and very stressful but I was over the moon to come 13th.

“My parents were really pleased as well.”

Aimee plans to study media make-up with special effects at Leeds University.
