Council grant for dance festival

Morecambe Town Council has given £1,350 towards a new dance festival in 2014. The Bay Summer Dance Festival will be held at Lancaster and Morecambe College from August 1 to 4 and will be open for young dancers aged up to 18. For more info call Patricia Williams on 07768535228.

Crown court sentence

A man will be sentenced at Preston Crown Court after being found guilty of two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. Ian Nixon, 35, of Marine Road West, Morecambe, is due to be sentenced on Monday, October 21. The offences took place on Sunday, January 6 of this year when Ian Nixon incited two 14-year-old girls on separate occasions via text message to send him photographs of themselves.

Record store shuts

Morecambe’s only dedicated record shop has shut down out of the blue. Dirty Entertainment closed suddenly over the weekend, management at the Arndale Centre confirmed, and the unit is now empty. Dirty Entertainment opened in April 2012 and mainly sold music CDs and DVDs. Last December owner Joe Hargreaves told The Visitor it had been a tough first year for the business due to the economy.
