Stolen bike operation launched

POLICE have launched an operation to tackle bike thefts in the district.

Insp Dave Vickers from Morecambe Police, speaking about Operation Chainguard, said: “Aanyone who might know who has got these cycles, please let us know.”

Recent thefts include:

*An Orange Patriot cycle taken from the garden of a house on Kilnbank Avenue in Morecambe in the early hours of August 15;

*A small child’s BMX bike in black with “Go Easy” rooster stickers, taken from the front garden of a house on Balmoral Road in Morecambe between 5pm and 6pm on August 14;

*A dark blue and grey Saracen mountain bike with front suspension and large black Nike forks taken from the front garden of a terraced house on Kingsway, Heysham, on August 14;

*A Scott white and blue bike with 21 gears stolen from outside Morecambe library on August 12 - the chain was cut before the thief took the bike;

*A sky blue SFR bike stolen from Morrisons on August 10 - the offender cut through a steel cable before taking the bike.

Insp Vickers added: “We would ask people to ensure their pedal cycles are secure.

“We’ve had a lot of thefts from front gardens and some have been stolen by metal thieves.”
