Have your say

Would I be right in thinking that, just days into the new year, many of you are either beginning to put into practice your resolutions or have broken them all already?

It’s hard for me to make the traditional resolutions. I have cut down on drinking for health reasons and I don’t smoke. The bookies aren’t a vice for me so where do I start to make my life better in 2016?

Okay, it could well be a bit of weight loss. I dropped loads when I was ill but have put a wee bit on since the all clear - time to try out a diet.

You don’t have to go far to find one. The Internet is literally full of them and all the weekend supplements have many column inches devoted to losing the excesses of Christmas. There is one though that is so new I doubt anyone would have come across it (well, I did read about it in The Times magazine on Saturday).

It’s called the sirtfood diet and, for some sporting and media celebs, it’s already become a way of life. According to researchers sirtfoods mimic the effects of both fasting and exercise - great if you hate the gym!

The other good aspect to this diet (or way of life!) is you may have many of the ingredients in your store cupboard already. The real wonder of this diet is (now get ready ladies), you can have red wine and chocolate on it - result!

Now women who do red wine can justify it to their partners that they are actually doing their bodies the world of good. “Pass me another Milk Tray darling.”

It is, however, not as simple as munching your way through a full box of chocs and slugging a litre of Merlot, you have to use the combinations of all the sirtfoods to have any effect.

Buckwheat, capers, chilli and medjool dates (whatever they are) are some of the other foods you need to consider. Check it out on the Internet.

Much to my wife’s amazement and incredulity I’m going to give this “way of life” a try out. What have I got to loose - well a few pounds in weight I hope. If not, I’ll be jogging down the prom!
