Elsewhere, local car enthusiasts and members of Morecambe Car Club were involved in organising and marshaling the three-day Flying Scotsman Rally held over the weekend.

The rally, a round of the Endurance Rallying Association, had 111, high-quality entries from places such as Switzerland, Spain, Belgium, New York, Holland, Germany, UK and Ecuador.

The cars, many with a price tag that would have folk gasping at the treatment being meted out in rallying, had Rolls Royce’s, Bentley’s, Italia 40 Frazer Nash, Jaguar’s Lagonda’s and Aston Martin among many others.

The rally began on Friday morning at Slayley Hall, the route taking competitors through Cumbria and eventually to an overnight halt in Edinburgh.

Saturday’s route headed to another overnight halt in Aviemore and the rally finishing at Gleneagles on Sunday afternoon.
