AS the school’s motto says, pupils and staff at Great Wood school are aiming high and making a difference.

When The Visitor paid a visit to the Beaufort Road school, youngsters were in the central hall taking part in The Big Taste Test as part of World Kitchen studies.

Infant children had experimented making fruit smoothies and then advertised their favourite blends. The junior children performed a taste test and gave feedback to the young entrepreneurs with Mrs Todd’s class’s blend of mango, pineapple and strawberry smoothie voted the tastiest.

Juniors were working as teams, too, inventing protective clothing for Arctic or Amazonian explorers. They have been learning about cultures who live in extreme environments, and a visitor from an outdoor clothing store helped them consider problems to be solved.

They will present their designs at a Dragons’ Den style event next month.
