MORECAMBE Town Councillors look set to rubber stamp a Punch and Judy festival in the resort.
Councillors will be asked to approve the two-day event, on the weekend of July 7 and 8, at this Thursday’s full council meeting at Morecambe Town Hall.
Traditional shows would be held in the Arena area of the Promenade on both the Saturday and Sunday together with shows in West End Gardens on Saturday and Happy Mount Park on Sunday.
Regional performing arts charity PuppetLink approached the council back in 2010 about a show celebrating 350 years of Punch and Judy in 2012 subject to a funding application to the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The charity will receive £5,000 from the HLF which the town council will match fund.
The event would be one of many across the country but the only one in the North West.
