Another of the district’s pubs is undergoing a major refurbishment and is currently closed while building work takes place.

The Greyhound Pub in Halton is getting a £140,000 makeover, and will re-open on April 14.

Heineken’s pub business, Star Pubs & Bars, and licensee, Anthony Rooker, say they are aiming to create the best of both worlds – a destination food pub and the best sports bar in the Lune Valley. The investment will create 15 new jobs, adding to the pub’s six employees.

The Greyhound is introducing barista style coffee and extending its trading hours. It will open from 8.30am on selected days for breakfast, coffees and snacks, as well as lunches and dinners, closing at 11.30pm.

The interior of The Greyhound is being completely overhauled, introducing two distinct areas – a dining area and a sports bar - and improving the look and comfort of the pub. The new sports bar will have a fun eccentric feel with quirky lights and pictures and metal sculptures together with wooden and restored brick flooring, antique rugs and and free-standing tables and chairs. There will also be three large sports screens and a juke box.

Anthony said: “Since I took on the pub at the end of 2015 we’ve increased the drinks sales by over 100 per cent and been voted the best community pub in the bay area. However, we can’t grow the business further in its current state with its sauna-like pine panelled interior. It’s been 22 years since the pub last had a refurbishment so there’s real excitement about the plans which reintroduce character to the pub.”

Gary Corney, operations and sales director, Star Pubs & Bars said: “Heineken is a passionate supporter of great pubs so we’re delighted to be investing in The Greyhound to meet the demand of the rapidly expanding village and to enable Anthony to grow his business further.

“He’s done a fabulous job creating a family friendly pub at the heart of the community.

“It’s now time to upgrade the surroundings to create the best of both worlds a fabulous experience for diners and for drinkers and sports enthusiasts.”
