POSTERS placed in businesses around Morecambe detailing information about the upcoming town council elections or Morecambe Town Referendum May 2011 have not been produced or published by Morecambe Town Council.
The notices have no name or contact details of the publisher.
David Croxall, town clerk of Morecambe town council said: “The public should be aware that the notices have not been produced or published by Morecambe Town Council.
“The public are reminded that a Morecambe Town Council Referendum will not be taking place on Thursday, May 5, as the public meeting held on April 18 has been deemed to be unconstitutional by the Returning Officer as its proceedings did not comply with the Local Government Act 1972.
“In any case the date of the meeting would not have allowed the Returning Officer sufficient time to organise a referendum on May 5.
“These notices have not been published by myself as Clerk and do not represent the views of the Town Council.”
The AV referendum will still be taking place.
For the official details of all candidates standing at the election the public are advised to visit the Town Council’s website at www.morecambe.gov.uk.
