The mother and son found stabbed to death in Bolton-le-Sands on Tuesday have been named.
Lisa Clay, 41, and her six-year-old son Joseph Chadwick were discovered at an address on Lowlands Road at 11.40am.
Ms Clay’s body was found downstairs and the body of the boy was in the upstairs front bedroom.
A home office post mortem examination carried out on Tuesday night revealed that they both died as a result of receiving multiple stab wounds.
A 34-year-old man, under arrest on suspicion of murder, remains in a serious condition at the Royal Preston Hospital suffering from what appeared to be self-inflicted stab wounds.
Tim Cross, headteacher at Bolton-le-Sands CE Primary, where Joseph was a pupil, said: “We are all shocked and deeply saddened by the untimely loss of Joseph and his mother.
“Joseph had only attended our school for a few months, but within that time he had endeared himself to us as a lovely, lively boy, full of fun, and quickly making friends in his year group.
“When pupils return to school after the Easter break, we will make sure that they are given all the help and support they need to come to terms with this news.
“The thoughts and prayers of all of us – pupils, parents, staff and governors – are with Joseph and his family at this very sad time.”
