Police are hunting three “mindless thugs” believed to have carried out two assaults in Lancaster on the same night.

A 19-year-old man was punched by one of the group at 8.10pm on Wednesday, April 24, on the Astro Turf pitch behind the University of Cumbria on Bowerham Road.

And it is believed the same men then punched and kicked a 22-year-old man on the canal path between Green Street and De Vitre Street around 50 minutes later.

Both men suffered minor injuries and were shaken by the incidents.

PC Tom Wisby said: “Both of these assaults were completely unprovoked and carried out by mindless thugs, we need to find the people responsible.”

All three men are described as being white, of slim build, around six feet tall and approximately 18 to 20 years old.

The first man is described as having dark, shaved hair with short, thin facial growth and tanned skin.

He was wearing a grey sweat top with a zip down the front and grey tracksuit trousers.

The second man was wearing a bright red hooded top with his hood up and the third man had dark coloured clothing on.
