MORECAMBE’S best known pie maker has gone bust but its owner is refusing to throw in the towel.

Russell Walsh, of Potts’ Pies, has been forced to liquidate his limited company due to debts of more than £100,000. But Mr Walsh will set up a new firm under the same name and continue to trade to keep his 15 staff in work.

Mr Walsh’s three shops in Morecambe, Bowerham and Bolton-le-Sands have remained open and he says it will be business as usual.

“It’s a case of survival,” he said.

“It’s forced me to look at the business and move forward.

“If I’m going to close I’ll do it on my own terms and besides, I’ve been working here since I was 15. And I’m proud of my pies.”

Potts’ Pies appeared to be a thriving business as Mr Walsh had recently upgraded his Anderton Street store to a “pie and mash” cafe and franchised out the first ever overseas Potts’ Pies outlet in Paderborn, Germany.
