Paedo, 21, jailed for sex offence

A paedophile who sexually abused a 13-year-old boy when he was just 18 himself has been jailed.

Zac Briggs, 21, of Coniston Road, Carnforth, also had indecent images of children on his laptop, said police.

He abused his 13-year-old victim in 2009 but the victim was only able to speak about the offence years later.

DC Mark Greaves, of Lancaster CID, said: “The victim was highly traumatised at the time and suffered a great deal of trauma when he disclosed what had happened.

“Any sex offence between two males is traumatic for the victim. There was a significant age difference between the offender and the victim. It’s very difficult for victims of sexual abuse or sexual offences to disclose and say what has happened.

“The victim in this case needs to be commended for his strength in coming forward and for his resilience over the last 18 months.

“Social media interaction between people on the periphery of the investigation or friends of those involved causes such distress to those involved.

“Malicious comments don’t help the victim or the offender and I would ask people to refrain from this sort of thing.”

Briggs has to sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

He was jailed for 15 months.
