Thousands of pounds worth of equipment was stolen from an opticians in Morecambe.
Police said that sometime between 5pm on Tuesday, December 3 and 9am the following morning, somebody entered Moon and Coxhill Opticians on Lancaster Road in Torrisholme.
They stole various pieces of optical equipment, as well as a computer monitor and keyboard, worth thousands of pounds.
Further to this incident, between 10.30pm and 11pm on the same night, somebody approached a BT control box opposite the opticians and severed a fibre optic broadband cable and also a telephone line.
Mike Moon from Moon and Coxhill said: “ It does look as though we were targeted as there is a recent history of such raids throughout the country.
“Only equipment relating to sight testing and eye examination was taken, plus the pliers and frame heaters needed to adjust spectacles. No spectacle frames or money was taken, despite finding the key to let themselves out of the front door.
“They cut the telephone cables opposite at 11pm on the Tuesday night, thus inconveniencing a number of local businesses.
“Presumably this was in an attempt to disable the alarms. They also took the large waste bin, presumably to use to carry some of the stolen items. We were up and running again on Thursday, as we have backup items for all the essential equipment.”
PC Jo Clement said: “We believe the cable was cut prior to the burglary being carried out and at this stage we do believe the two incidents are connected.
“I would also like to speak with anybody who may have seen anyone acting suspicious in the Lancaster Road area either on the night in question or the days leading up to it.”
