There were two very special guests at the marriage of Eric Morecambe’s granddaughter– the wedding car and its driver.

That’s because the car was Eric’s old Rolls Royce, and the man behind the wheel was his former chauffeur Mike Fountain.

Mike, who lives in Morecambe, drove his former employer’s granddaughter Amelia to the church for her recent nuptials to actor Edward Thorpe.

Amelia’s mum is Gail Stuart, Eric’s only daughter.

The 1971 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow was saved from the scrapheap by Peter Yates from Carnforth, who now hires it out for weddings and functions.

Amelia and Edward’s special day took place at Hampton-in-Arden near Kenilworth in the West Midlands.

The couple will honeymoon in Prague and Venice.

Other wedding guests included Eric’s widow Joan and Bob Golding, who plays the great man in a one-man touring show, returning to The Dukes in Lancaster in 2014.
