Lonely pensioners enjoyed afternoon tea at the refreshment rooms at Carnforth Railway Station funded by Carnforth Rotary Club.

A post Christmas afternoon tea was organised by the Rotary Club of Carnforth for elderly and isolated members of the community.

The party was funded from the proceeds of the Santa’s Sleigh collection around Carnforth and villages surrounding the town.

The day saw a number of local pensioners finding their way to the refreshment rooms on Carnforth Railway Station.

Thirty pensioners from Carnforth, Warton, Bolton-le-Sands, Slyne and Hest Bank arrived for afternoon tea.

Many of those present did not know each other but were soon chatting like old friends achieving the aim of the event of meeting others from the area in similar situations.

Five former railway colleagues were amongst the guests and they really enjoyed meeting each other again after several years.

For one it was his first venture back to the station since he retired and he is now 83 years of age.

The afternoon tea prepared by Rotarian Andrew Coates, who runs the refreshment rooms at the station, was served by several Rotarians from the club lead by club President Mike Willetts.

President Mike introduced an impromptu sing-a- long.
