THE new £2.2m Travelodge hotel in Morecambe is off to a flying start.

The hotel was fully booked on its opening weekend and all 60 rooms were also sold out for the subsequent two weekends.

Coun Keith Sowden, deputy mayor of Lancaster, officially opened the Travelodge next to the Arndale Centre last Thursday.

A traditional street party was held outside the new hotel including entertainment by a magician and face painter.

PJ Edgar, hotel manager, said: “I am so thrilled to be back working for Travelodge and opening this brand new hotel in my home town.

“There is a big demand for good quality budget accommodation from visitors to the town.

“I am confident that Morecambe Travelodge could soon become one of the company’s best performing hotels in the UK.”

Coun Sowden said: “I would like to welcome Travelodge to Morecambe, we are delighted that this big brand has decided to invest in our seaside town, which will help put us firmly back on the tourist map.”
