THE new chief executive of University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust says she wants to drive it forward to a successful future.
Jackie Daniel, who has spent 27 years in acute care, has been appointed at the trust to replace Eric Morton, interim chief executive.
She has been a chief executive at the Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust for over ten years.
Jackie said: “I’ve no doubt it will be a huge challenge but there is so much to play for. We have fantastic staff and services. There are so many action plans at the moment but we really want to improve quality of care and patient safety.
“We have to piece all these bits together to get to the underlying issues.
“As regards structural improvements, we are making improvements to A and E departments and medical wards.
“The most important thing is to work with staff to improve attitudes and behaviours, which takes a little time.
“I’m one person in the whole organisation and I rely on the staff we employ to bring their best every day. They are absolutely bringing the best of what they can to their jobs.
“I am trying to renew confidence in the organisation after a number of high profile reports. We will tackle issues where they need to be tackled with the staff and the public.
“We will be tough on issues and easier with people.
“As regards finances of the trust, there is still a gap but this is narrowing. We must never let the financial haemorrhage continue.
“I came into the health service to make a difference and I want to improve the current situation.”

Jackie will be taking up her post on August 1.
Eric will remain as Interim Chief Executive until July 27.
