A man who stabbed a bus driver to death and left a woman fighting for her life in a horrifying knife attack has pleaded guilty to murder.
Gareth Mason, 26, killed Adam Stirrup, from Lancaster, and left former Morecambe High School student Katrina Rudrum with multiple stab wounds at Heysham’s Stud Farm Holiday Park.
Katrina’s injuries were so horrific, a neighbour at Stud Farm Holiday park at Oxcliffe Road, Heysham, said it was worse than anything he had seen during an Army career in Northern Ireland.
Victim Adam, a driver for Stagecoach based at the Lancaster depot, was described as a “lovely lad”.
Gareth Mason, 26, also pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent to his former partner Katrina Rudrum during the same incident.
Wearing a dark blue jumper and dark trousers Mason,of Westminster Road, Morecambe, spoke only to confirm his name and enter his guilty pleas.
After the pleas were entered Judge Stuart Baker said he would like to hear more about the impact of the stabbings upon the surviving victim, and Mr Stirrup’s family.
Sentencing was adjourned until today, Tuesday.
