David Morris, MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale, writes....The House of Commons is in summer recess at the moment so this is the time for MPs to return to their constituency.
During the summer break I plan to hold a tour which will take me right across the constituency with a mixture of meet your MP events and advice surgeries. To see the full details of my tour, please take a look at my website or contact my office for more details.
I have received a number of letters and e-mails over the last week from parents who are concerned that Skerton High School is under threat of closure.
I plan to write to the county council on your behalf to ascertain the facts and to ask what their plans are. I suggest you do the same by writing to your local Lancashire County Councillor and the Cabinet member for Schools, Matthew Tomlinson, (Labour, Leyland Central). All contact details can be found on the Lancashire County Council website.
Also last week, I was pleased to see that Baxter’s Morecambe Bay potted shrimps were featured in a magazine. Their produce is delicious and they are an iconic company who supply to the royal family. I know that the Visitor has previously presented an award to Baxters and they also represented the Morecambe & Lunesdale constituency at Lancashire Day in the House of Parliament last year.
On the subject of delicious foods, I am in training, no seriously I am, because In September I will run five miles with Pte Scott Farmer who is raising funds for Help For Heroes.
Scott is doing a much longer run. He will be running 123 miles from Scarborough Pier to the Eric Morecambe Statue. Please donate by visiting Scott’s website http://www.bmycharity.com/ScottFarmer
Thank you to everyone who came to my advice surgery in Heysham on Friday. My next advice surgery is on Monday August 19 at Tesco Supermarket in Carnforth.
