Morecambe unemployment falls

Unemployment has fallen again in Morecambe and Lunesdale.

Figures from the Office of National Statistics revealed a 119 drop in Jobseekers’ Allowance claimants since May, and a 501 drop since June 2013.

Morecambe has the 233rd highest rate of unemployment out of 653 Parliamentary constituencies nationwide. There are now 2.12m people unemployed in the UK, a fall of 121,000 since December 2013-February 2014.


Plans for a 77m high wind turbine at Heysham Harbour will be discussed at a meeting tonight in Heysham. The Heysham Neighbourhood Council meeting starts at 7.30pm at Heysham Village Institute. All welcome.


Bulldog lovers are invited to a meet and greet with the breed this Sunday (July 26). The Bulldog Rescue charity will be on hand at the forecourt outside Northern Relics antiques on Morecambe Promenade. You can meet the dogs, find out why they need to raise funds and discover how easy it is to register to adopt a bulldog. And Marshall the bulldog will have his kissing booth up and running too! The event starts at noon.
