Complaints about beggars dragging down Morecambe town centre are falling after police took action and The Visitor highlighted the problem.

Sgt Lindsay Brown of Morecambe Area Police said there had been no recent issues with street beggars on the Euston Road precinct and businesses in the area were happy with the progress.

Sgt Brown told Morecambe Town Council police liaison committee that PCSOs regularly patrol the shopping area in the mornings.

The Visitor also wrote a front page story in May about how beggars, buskers, drunks and ‘charity muggers’ were dragging down the area.

Carol Taylor of Gordon Carol hairdressers on Euston Road said: “It is getting much better. The police are moving them on now.”
