PLANS are afoot to set a new record for the world’s largest street party on Morecambe Promenade.

The event, which would see nearly two miles of tables laid along the prom, would be in honour of the queen’s Diamond Jubilee on June 3 next year. Morecambe Town Councillor, Tricia Heath, is spearheading the plan and says she needs the help of the people of the town to do it. Coun Heath said: “A couple of us talked about doing something for the jubilee and it’s blown up into trying to break a world record. We figured the prom would be the best place for it as it’s flat.

“I put the idea to the town council who thought it was a good idea. I hope it brings the community together, and brings them together for something positive. It would really help the hoteliers as well with people coming into the town.”
