MOTORISTS in the Morecambe area are being reminded that Bare Lane level crossing is about to be upgraded by Network Rail.
The crossing takes Bare Lane (the B5275) over the railway tracks outside the station and is being improved as part of a £5million project to renew equipment dating back to the 1970s and bring it in line with modern standards.
It will also improve the performance of trains on the Morecambe line.
Ultimately the control of the crossing will be transferred to Preston signalling centre, which will monitor it using CCTV.
The crossing will close to road users from 10pm on Saturday, May 19 and remain closed until 5am on Monday, May 28. During this closure there will be a signed diversion for road vehicles but access over the crossing will be maintained for pedestrians, with an attendant operating temporary barriers.
Weekday train services will be unaffected by the closure of the crossing but passengers should check with either Northern Rail or National Rail Enquiries if they are travelling at the weekends.
