Morecambe Carnival: Scouting For Girls, Alesha Dixon and more

This time of year in Morecambe is truly special.

The Morecambe Carnival is a stand-alone favourite in my reporting diary it has to be said. On April 30 and May 1 it will be notebooks and cameras at the ready.

The acts, the entertainment and above-all the community, make the carnival what it is and each year it gets bigger and better.

So you can imagine my excitement when Scouting For Girls and Alesha Dixon were announced as headliners for the main stage on Sunday May 1.

Cheeky chaps, Roy Stride, Greg Churchouse and Peter Ellard, that are Scouting For Girls are within the feel-good section on my Ipod.

You know summer is approaching when you listen to ‘She’s so Lovely,’ ‘Heartbeat’ and ‘Elvis Aint Dead’ and mixed with stunning views across the bay. Could you want more?

Then there’s Alesha Dixon.

From watching her on a Saturday night on Britain’s Got Talent to discovering she will soon be entertaining crowds along the promenade was another fist-pumping moment.

Idol Minds, Ashleigh Wood, District 12, Tiger Heart, Britain’s Got Talent star Henry Gallagher, X Factor and I’m A Celebrity star Jake Quickenden, The Voice winner Kevin Simm and runner-up Jolan Gidney-Craigen will also perform, as will Newton Faulkner.

Morecambe man Stuart Michaels and Amy Jo Clough, who hails from Bolton-le-Sands, will also sing during the day.

There is also a new family stage with tons of local acts.

The EDF Family Stage in The Midland Promenade Gardens, run by DJ Trevor Cooke, will showcase local acts to entertain crowds on Saturday and Sunday, some include singer Ellie Dibben, Alpha Omega Wrestling, popular Winter Gardens singer Harri Deane, family prizes, plus much more.

Acts begin on The Bay main stage at 4pm.

The running order has not officially been released but the headliners are expected to be on later in the evening before a grand finale fireworks display rounds things off at 9pm.

It is a busy weekend for all, including The Visitor.

Myself and my colleague Greg Lambert will be there on Sunday so do please say hello and most of all enjoy it.
