We want a say on coast fears

MORECAMBE, Heysham, Sunderland Point, Bolton-le-Sands, Silverdale and other settlements on our stretch of Morecambe Bay have been left out of a coastal erosion consultation.

Geraldine Smith, the MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale, has picked up on the omission and has arranged a meeting with the Environment Agency and the city council to make sure public consultation is carried out.

The meeting will take place on Friday at 1pm.

Geraldine told The Visitor: "Myself and Lancaster's MP Ben Wallace were also missed off the list.

"A proper consultation has not been done.

"We need public meetings about all of the areas affected by coastal erosion.

"Many have a very strong case for protection such as Sunderland Point for heritage reasons, Leighton Moss reserve in Silverdale and Heysham where St Peter's Church is threatened."

Any public meetings will be advertised in your Visitor.
