Viking hoard may be worth £500k
Darren Webster found a hoard of Viking treasure when metal detecting.
A METAL detecting enthusiast has enjoyed an early Christmas present after the hoard of Viking silver he found in Silverdale was declared as treasure.
Darren Webster says he’s “still getting over it” after a hoard of 201 coins and pieces of jewellery was hailed as a monumental find by Preston Coroner’s Court. The treasure will be officially valued in February but could be worth as much as £500,000.
Mr Webster, who runs a worktop and tiling business in Yealand Conyers, had collected his son from school and was heading back to work – but he decided to allow himself a few hours in a field where he had been several times before, but never found anything more exciting than a Tudor half groat.
