UPDATE: Morecambe cyclist killed in Kendal bypass crash named
POLICE have named the 46-year-old man from Morecambe killed after a crash on Kendal bypass last night.
Stephen David Salt, of Elms Drive, Bare, was on his bike when he was involved in a collision with two cars on the A591 near the Prizet filling station at around 8.15pm yesterday.
Mr Salt collided with a red Seat Ibiza being driven by a 29-year-old woman, an off duty police officer from Cumbria Constabulary from Lancaster, and a green Skoda Fabia driven by a 49-year-old woman from Dalton-in-Furness.
Mr Salt, who was travelling towards the M6, was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time of the collision there was fog in the area and officers are investigating if the weather was a contributory factor in the collision.
The road was closed for approximately seven hours whilst an investigation was carried out.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or had seen the pedal cyclist prior to the incident to contact the Cumbria Roads Policing Unit by calling 101.

Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 06:05 PMThe answer to these questions is obvious, but will cleartly bear explicit statement. The cyclist didn't die and it is not 'end of story'; he was killed when a couple of cars hit him. It is conceivable, but very improbable that it was his fault. Cyclists are averse to these killings because they see driving that could lead to their own demise every day, and equally averse to twits who tell them to keep quiet. Cars are lethal weapons and must be treated as such. Drivers should fear the possibility of causing death or injury every time they venture onto the road.

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 07:11 PMWilliam T .... A totally unnecessary comment. Why are you put out? Did it interfere with your tea? How do you draw an inference from this article that they are avoiding judgement? The case no doubt will be investigated fully and the facts published. Until then keep quiet and show respect.

Monday, February 13, 2012 at 04:14 PMI am a little put out at the excessively 'careful' language used in this report and those on other sites- there is no doubt that the cars 'collided with' the very sadly deceased Mr Salt, rather than the other way round. There is no need to distort the language in a misguided desire to 'avoid judgement'.
