TWO men who stashed 10 kilos of cannabis resin in a garage are now behind bars.
David Siddle and Neil Lindsay were arrested by police following a complex investigation into the importation of cannabis into the resort from Spain.
A series of raids were carried out in June 2010 and the resin, worth an estimated £28,440, was found hidden in concrete posts in a lock up garage rented by 38-year-old Siddle.
Cash totalling £52,000 was later seized from his Knowlys Avenue home in Heysham.
Siddle and Lindsay, 33, of Thirlmere Drive, Morecambe, appeared at Preston Crown Court earlier this year and pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply cannabis.
Appearing at court again last week (Tuesday) Siddle was jailed for 40 months and Lindsay for 13 months.
A forfeiture order for the £52,000 was made and will now be used by Lancashire Constabulary for future crime fighting projects.
Detective Sergeant Neil Drummond, Lancashire Constabulary, said: “We became aware that cannabis was being brought into Morecambe from Malaga in Spain and began our investigations to crack this supply chain.
“The cannabis that we seized was a significant amount in itself, but the cash also highlighted the fact that further amounts had probably also been brought into the town.
“Fortunately we were able to prevent 10 kilos of the drug reaching our streets; we now have two offenders in jail and have caused substantial disruption to an organised crime group.
“I hope that this will serve as a warning to others who are considering getting involved in the importation of drugs that we will do all we can to catch offenders and have them put behind bars.”
